The construction of the Baku Olympic Stadium with a capacity of 69780 spectators, near Lake Beugshor, was initiated by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev in November 2011. A magnificent 6-storey, 65.7-meter building was ready for use on March 6, 2015. This stadium was used as the main venue for the first European Games in 2015. Opening and closing ceremonies were organized there.
The project was financed by SOCAR. The construction of the stadium was entrusted to the TEKFEN company. Construction and design work was carried out in accordance with international standards of UEFA, FIFA, ESSMA and construction regulations of Azerbaijan.
The Sumgait Technological Park took an active part in the repair and construction of the stadium. STP delivered 2000 tons of metal structures on request. In addition, all cable delivery was provided by the Cable Plant of STP. For the first time 220 kV high-voltage cables of the technopark were widely used in this project.
